Treffen Thrombozyten auf eine Gef\u00e4\u00dfverletzung, haften sie binnen k\u00fcrzester Zeit an die verletzte Gef\u00e4\u00dfwand an, werden aktiviert und binden aneinander (Aggregation). Der so entstehende Pfropf (Thrombus) verschlie\u00dft die Verletzung und beendet damit den Blutverlust. Unter pathophysiologischen Bedingungen, zum Beispiel in durch Atherosklerose krankhaft ver\u00e4nderten Gef\u00e4\u00dfen, kann Thrombusbildung jedoch zu lebensbedrohlichen Erkrankungen wie Herzinfarkt oder Schlaganfall f\u00fchren. Die Behandlung der Thrombozyten-abh\u00e4ngigen Thrombusbildung mit Medikamenten wie Aspirin\u00ae und Clopidogrel muss aufgrund des erh\u00f6hten Blutungsrisikos gr\u00fcndlich \u00fcberwacht werden.<\/p>\n<p>Die \u201eThrombo-Inflammation\u201c ist ein neuer, grundlegender Pathomechanismus, der eng zusammenwirkende thrombotische und entz\u00fcndliche Prozesse umfasst und in dramatischer Organsch\u00e4digung resultieren kann. Am besten dokumentiert ist dies beim isch\u00e4mischen Schlaganfall. Hier f\u00fchrt die Interaktion von Thrombozyten mit Immunzellen zu einer Entz\u00fcndungsreaktion und dadurch zu einem schnellen Voranschreiten des Infarkts in weiten Arealen des Gehirns. Die Behandlung wird dadurch erschwert, dass dieser thrombo-inflammatorische Vorgang auch durch die Rekanalisation (das Wiederdurchg\u00e4ngigmachen) der zuvor thrombotisch verschlossenen Arterie nicht verhindert werden kann. Bedeutsamerweise ist die Funktion der Thrombozyten im Prozess der Thrombo-Inflammation grundlegend anders als in ihrer klassischen Rolle bei der H\u00e4mostase und die zugrundeliegenden Mechanismen sind bislang weitgehend unverstanden.<\/p>\n<p>Um in Zukunft eine individualisierte anti-thrombo-inflammatorische Therapie zu erm\u00f6glichen, ist ein tieferes molekulares Verst\u00e4ndnis der Thrombozytenfunktion bei unterschiedlichen relevanten Erkrankungen, aber auch in der \u201enormalen\u201c Physiologie, notwendig. Das neu gegr\u00fcndete Translationsnetzwerk \u201eThrombo-Inflame\u201c bietet zu diesem Zweck eine Plattform f\u00fcr die Interaktion universit\u00e4rer Forschungseinrichtungen mit lokalen, kleinen und mittelst\u00e4ndischen Unternehmen, um den wissenschaftlichen Austausch in dem schnell wachsenden Bereich thrombo-inflammatorischer Krankheitsprozesse zu erm\u00f6glichen.
