About

Thrombo-inflammation has recently emerged as a fundamental pathomechanism involved in a variety of diseases, including ischemic stroke, sepsis, trauma, autoimmune conditions, and infections. Platelets play a key role in these disorders through their complex interplay with immune cells and the vasculature, yet the underlying molecular mechanisms are insufficiently understood, contributing to limited treatment options.

The DFG-funded Research Training Group (RTG) 3190, Thrombo-Inflame, is dedicated to elucidating the comprehensive mechanisms underlying thrombo-inflammation, particularly in critical conditions such as stroke and sepsis. Central to the mission of the RTG 3190 is the training and development of the next generation of scientists, preparing them to make crucial contributions to the dynamically evolving field of thrombo-inflammation.

RTG 3190 brings together a highly interdisciplinary and complementary group of internationally renowned experts in megakaryocyte and platelet biology, clinical medicine, immunology, vascular biology, and cutting-edge imaging technologies. The programme will be executed by PhD candidates within collaborative groups based at the University of Würzburg and/or University Hospital Würzburg, leveraging their combined expertise, tools, and educational resources.
